How do you read a Hull ID Range?
The Hull Identification Number (HIN) is often a twelve- or fourteen-character serial quantity that uniquely identifies a boat. The HIN is analogous into a VIN on a car or truck.
The very first 3 digits tend to be the Company’s Identification Code (ex. Boat brand including Sea Ray, Meridian, and so forth.). The 4 digits after that are classified as the maker’s serial range with the boat. The third and 4th digits with the close are the day of manufacture. The letter over the day on the manufacture corresponds on the month in the 12 months, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so on. The last two digits from the HIN number stand for the design calendar year.
All boats produced or imported on or following November 1, 1972, need to bear a HIN, which HIN needs to be identified through boat registration. Vessels created or imported prior to 1972 are EXEMPT given that they generally would not have a HIN.
The HIN is observed with a metal or plastic plate, generally on the transom from the boat, typically on the appropriate starboard (correct) side with the transom within two inches of the top of transom, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is most affordable.
On vessels with no transoms, or impractical to employ transoms, the HIN is usually affixed towards the starboard (proper) outboard aspect of hull, hull id number aft, within just a person foot of your stern and in just two inches of the best with the hull aspect, gunwale or hull/deck joint, whichever is most affordable.
